At approximately the third bell, a figure was observed standing at the outer approach to the eastern gate. The figure was not moving. Watch Officer Brennan called the standard challenge twice. No response.

By the time a second officer reached the position, the figure was no longer visible. No tracks were found at first light. The gate log records no entry or departure.
